The three groups that make up the municipal opposition in the Santa Cruz City Council (PSOE, UP and Cs) ask the Consistory to stop the tender for the maintenance service of electrical installations in the city. As explained yesterday by the spokesman for United We Can, Ramón Trujillo, “the opposition will present a motion to the municipal plenary session to paralyze this contest because when measures are taken that affect workers who provide services for the City Council, they must be consulted.” And it is that, as Trujillo explained, “the City Council has decided to divide into two lots what until now was a single contract, with what that means for the workers who could see their rights affected.”
The three groups point out that “although the regulations allow the division of large contracts, it is not mandatory, and we believe that this division is detrimental to the quality of the service, by breaking economies of scale”. In addition, Trujillo pointed out, “it could be the case that the same company won both lots, separating workers and resources, thus affecting the defense of labor rights.”
