The City Council of La Laguna wants to get more blue flags for its municipality. The Department of Beaches and Pools has just presented the applications for this edition and, as a novelty, apart from requesting them for the already recognized natural pools of Bajamar and Arenisco (in Punta del Hidalgo), on this occasion it has also decided to request it for Jóver, in Tejina.
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, affirmed that “the government team has been working intensely since the beginning of the mandate to position the lagoon coast as a benchmark natural and sustainable destination in the Islands and to promote the quality of life of the resident population, through the modernization and the increase in public provision, with services that respond to their demands and needs and that allow them to enjoy their values in a healthy and environmentally friendly way”.
One of the main strategic lines “focuses on improving the municipality’s bathing areas, with constant maintenance and modernization works that have led us to request this distinction for natural pools. We hope that the intense work carried out to protect and care for our coastline will be recognized this year with the three blue flags: for Bajamar, the Arenisco and also, for the first time, for Jóver, because we understand that it meets the required quality criteria and this award would mean its enhancement”, he said.
Similarly, the councilor responsible for the area, Cristina Ledesma, hopes to achieve this recognition for the Tejinera coast because “the requirements made by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (the organization that manages it) are the work we have been doing regularly to offer a good service to the citizenry”. “From the area we are continuously carrying out conservation and improvement work, we are preparing a new information signage for this place and we have replaced the lifeguard booths and portable toilets (male, female and adapted)”, he pointed out.
Although he recalled that “this is not the first time that Jóver’s candidacy has been presented”, it was already done in 2016 and 2017, “we hope that the blue flag can wave for the first time in this natural pool this year”.
On the other hand, the mayor announced that the distinction of blue path for the path of San Juanito has also been requested again, with the novelty that “we have extended the section, now between the fishermen’s brotherhood and the hermitage”.
Among the latest improvements made in this natural enclave, he mentioned, by way of example, the creation of bird-watching points and the renovation of all the information signs. “These and other initiatives allow us to advance in the conservation and dissemination of our biodiversity, for which we have the collaboration of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, which we thank for their support. implication”, concluded Cristina Ledesma.
