Óscar Izquierdo, president of Fepeco, is forceful in defending the Southern train, because, according to him, the Island needs it, the economy demands it, society requires it, which demands safe, fast, efficient, sustainable and certain mobility. “Tenerife is collapsed, stuck and immobilized, with permanent queues at all hours on most of its road network, with users fed up and rightly angry. Including this infrastructure in the Spanish Strategic Railway network is an essential step, for the Government of Spain and European Next Generation funds to finance it. There is no need to waste any more time, because a project that has cost a lot of money and professional dedication has been under preparation for two decades to be set aside due to whims or temporary political alliances, which can leave Tenerife out of modernity”, affirms the president of construction employer.
“Noism, which has done so much damage, has to go down in history once and for all, because it cannot continue to suffocate the island’s social development and economic growth. The ambiguity of the different political parties about the importance of the train from the South is unfortunate, shameful and shows, once again, that they put their interests above social welfare, far from the sentiment of the majority of citizens. Perplexity increases when some political parties, with double standards, defend it with ardor and enthusiasm in Gran Canaria and try to paralyze it at all costs in Tenerife. That’s called a felony. Those who reject it on our Island are betraying Tenerife”.
“If the politicians in the Cabildo reject the train from the South – today a Cs motion is being debated in plenary about it – they become responsible for the economic strangulation and social poverty in Tenerife,” says Óscar Izquierdo.
