The president, Pedro Martín, charges against CC’s “hoaxes and fake news” that only try to “confuse” the population
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has published two reports this Thursday, one from the service of the Sustainable Development area, and another from the University of La Laguna (ULL), which certify that there will be no incineration of waste on the island .
At a press conference in which he was accompanied by the Minister for Sustainable Development and the Fight Against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, Martín pointed out that both reports also highlight that the forthcoming tender for a plot of land in the environmental complex for recycling activities complies with European, national and regional legislation, and also with the insular waste plan.
Martín has especially valued the report of the officials of the Cabildo, signed by seven technicians, who conclude that incineration is “expressly prohibited” and the waste recycling treatment “is adequate and in line with the most demanding regulations of the EU” .
The president of Tenerife has accused the Canary Coalition (CC) of “launching hoaxes and fake news” to “try to confuse” the population “generating controversy” and without reports from the hand and believes that the documentation made public “is the best way to disavow those who invent”.
Thus, he pointed out that the Cabildo is going to continue with the bidding process for the recycling plant, for which only one company has applied so far –UTE Arico Green Gass– that only proposes waste recycling.
“The proposal only contemplates recycling garbage, and there will be an award or not, because we still depend on technical and legal services,” he commented, stressing that “it is sad” that “attacks” are received when such an important investment is being undertaken. and without any technical solvency.
Rodríguez has highlighted that waste has historically been “a poorly attended problem” in the Canary Islands, which has become a “failed territory” as it is the European region most sanctioned.
JAMMED MODEL SINCE 1985
He has said that Tenerife continues to operate “with a 1985 model”, designed at the time of the socialist José Segura at the head of the Cabildo, and believes that after the passage of Pedro Martín for the presidency it will be possible to speak of an “absolute change” for all the investments and actions carried out, especially with the 170 million agreement signed with Acuaes for wastewater.
Along these lines, he has valued the president’s “complicity and vision” for betting on sustainability and called CC’s criticism of the new waste treatment model “simple”, since the reports also guarantee that the Governing Council is competent to do bid.
Thus, he has indicated that Tenerife “has been burying waste for 35 years” and this situation cannot continue because it is the “last step” in waste treatment and we must begin to transform it into new resources of the circular economy.
“We understand that this is the way to go, betting on transformation, which also allows us to generate quality employment”, he pointed out.
