SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, given the Port Authority’s refusal to cede the Los Llanos dock esplanade to the City Council for the celebration of the 2022 Carnival competitions and galas in June, has indicated this Thursday that “the new proposal that they have sent us through third parties is still not supported by technical reports and they show that the Port Authority has no interest in redirecting the situation”.
Bermúdez maintains in a note that “the perspective, unaffordable by the city, of indefinitely prolonging a negotiation in which one of the parties has no interest in reaching an agreement”, has forced him to give instructions to the technicians of Fiestas so that “immediately another space can be found to host the Carnival gala and contests”.
On the other hand, given the new proposal made late this Thursday morning by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, regarding the possibility of using the Fairgrounds, the mayor maintains that it is striking that 15 days communicated “the impossibility of renting” this facility for contests and galas, so the Los Llanos dock alternative was sought, “and now, all of a sudden, it can be freed from activities and offered for the Carnival “.
However, he points out that the City Council has renounced carrying out the carnival in the port of Santa Cruz, “whose use seems to be conditioned to the defense of political interests, instead of the defense of the interests of citizens and the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is a Festival of International Tourist Interest”.
The mayor has regretted that they have not even received a call from the president of the Port Authority to redirect this situation, which represents a “lack of respect for the city, the capital of Tenerife, the chicharreros and chicharreras, their biggest party.”
