The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has proposed this Thursday to free up the esplanade of the pier for a month – or even a maximum of 45 days – to host the celebration of the Carnival events that are going to be held in the month of June.
This has been revealed by the president of the Cabildo, Peter Martin, which acknowledges that work is being done to find “a way out” after several “date changes” in the winter holidays due to the restrictions of the health pandemic.
“It’s not about doing an act one day, there are many days and it complicates the situation quite a bit,” he admitted, stressing that the Cabildo is also trying to change the entire programming of the Fairgrounds so that the month of June is released, assuming that “problems” are generated for the organizers of events -Gastrocanarias will be held at the end of May-. “We are very fair”, he pointed out.
Martín –who has received the call from the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, in the middle of a press conference– has also proposed the Tíncer insular athletics center which is “quite large, outdoors and has stands installed”, and could be available from May 15 to June 31.
The president has made it clear, however, that the final decision is not up to the Cabildo but to the City Council, which will be the one to assess which is the best option.
