The bodies of his wife and son had disfigured faces and had to be identified by DNA analysis

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Thomas Handrick, the German citizen accused of killing his wife and eldest son in a cave in Adeje, was “very calm” once the events occurred and had a “cold and distant” attitude in the different interrogations he had with the Police Local and the Civil Guard.

This has been stated by several agents in the third session of the trial in which the Prosecutor’s Office asks for 51 years and reviewable permanent prison and even a second lieutenant of the Judicial Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has ruled out that he presented any evident “psychological imbalance”.

He has said that he “never” asked about Jonas, the youngest son who survived the attack, neither about his wife nor about the eldest son, and he did not react when he was told that they had been murdered and was being investigated for a crime of homicide. “He didn’t say anything,” he said.

He pointed out that he was not an occasional athlete because he had “the back, legs and arms of someone who works his muscles with some intensity”, and in fact, in one of the searches in his home a large number of bodybuilding products were found along with many medicines. “It was not logical,” he pointed out.

The second lieutenant has indicated that the alleged gifts and Easter eggs were never found, nor his wife’s two telephones, but a safe was found –semi-hidden in a room under the stairs– which was later stolen and from which about 160,000 euros.

In this line, he has stated that the Civil Guard is aware that from October to April he periodically took out about 600 euros to add just over 40,000 euros in cash.

He has also said, like the corporal, that the bodies of Silvia and Jakob had “disfigured” faces and it was “impossible” to identify them, to the point that a DNA analysis had to be done.

In addition, next to them were large stones and traces of blood.

MORE PENDING ON MEDICATION THAN ON FAMILY

All the investigators have been surprised that Handrick was more aware of the medication than the whereabouts of his family and also that at the Local Police station he took off his shoes and lay down on a bench suffering from back pain.

“He was calm, I thought he was under the influence of medication, he stuttered, but as time went by he complained of back pain and lay down on the bench,” said a Local Police agent, who has also pointed out that Jonas, the youngest son, became “nervous” at the prospect of being handed over to his father.

The doubts began among the agents when they observed that Thomas had scratches and wounds on his face but his legs or knees were not affected, when he said that he had fallen and that is why he had returned home.

The corporal of the Civil Guard has commented that the path started by the family “is very steep, hard”, not to go with children, and in fact, in the last section, near the cave, not even the cars arrive.

“YES OR YES I HAD TO KNOW THE CAVE”

“I had to know the cave yes or yes, you have to go expressly, there is no visual access, nor do you see them from any clue, you have to go if you know it”, he pointed out.

Two doctors who treated Thomas at a private medical center in Adeje have certified that he had an indefinite treatment, prescribed from Germany, to combat muscle pain and depression, including morphine drops and another to increase the rate of testosterone.

One of the doctors has recalled that he told him that he “suffered” from not seeing his children but neither he nor his partner certified that the medication changed his character, in fact, the accused confessed to being “calm” and “well controlled” thanks to medication.

Another doctor, who treated him at the Los Cristianos Emergency Service when he was already detained, recalled that he had an anxiety crisis and asked for medication that they did not have in the facilities and was given a Valium.

The statement that the young son Jonas made before the psychologists in 2019 was also reproduced in the trial once it was admitted as evidence – it could not be heard due to technical problems.
