The pets can travel on public transport from Tenerife. Councilor Antolín Bueno, proponent of the motion, appreciates the unanimous support and celebrates that pets can soon move with their owners in the buses, trams and taxis. The process will be done gradually during 2022 to adapt the regulations. Bueno explains: «We have reached an agreement so that throughout this year the regulation of titsa and Metrotenerife so that animals can travel with the necessary measures to guarantee safety and coexistence of users. The CC counselor insists that “it is necessary to advance in those measures that allow pets and their owners to have sustainable mobility.” And sentence: “We have achieved the commitment that in 2022 access is allowed without distinction of race or weight.” The counselor argues: “Tenerife has to position itself as an animal-friendly island in line with Europe and that this be one more attraction for the tourists who visit us.”

Update the regulations

Values Good that “both residents and visitors must have facilities to transporting your pets on public transport». For Antolín Bueno, it is essential to “adapt and update the d and that this serves to encourage its use against private transport ». In addition, the approved motion advocates “collaborating with the island’s town councils to implement, in the municipal spheres and powers, the rules and measures that allow pets free access to public transport.”

Argumentation

Antolín Bueno recalls that «on January 5, 2022, Law 17/2021, dated December 15, 2021, came into force, which considers animals sentient beings and modifies the Civil Code». He values that “this supposes a variation in the regulation of these beings to fit it into the growing social sensitivity.” He considers that “the new legislation is in line with other changes made in European countries and is a step forward.” The counselor starts from the basis “of responsible ownership, both for people and for society, in general” and “on the importance of interacting and introducing our pets in all areas of daily life normally. Also in transportation.

examples

Antolín Bueno details examples from Europe and Spain that can be adapted to the Island. Places where animals may travel on public transport. From Berlin to Irun and from London to Ourense. It provides user testimonials like this: “I don’t understand why a well-behaved dog can’t travel on public transport.” Also ideas such as restricting the hours of the animal’s movements to certain strips with less influx of public. His initiative has been unanimously supported and Animals will soon be able to be seen with absolute normality together with their owners on public transport in Tenerife.
