SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez, has apologized this Friday to the LGTBI community after saying on ‘Televisión Canaria’ that homosexuality is a mortal sin if done consciously and freely and has regretted that his words have “caused pain” and induced to “confusion”.
“In the first place, I apologize to those who may have offended with my words, especially LGBTI people, to whom I express my respect and consideration. I must admit that I was not successful in answering some questions that require more careful reflection and explanation. I did not want to promote discrimination, nor compare homosexuality with alcoholism or with any other reality, “he says in a statement sent to the media.
Álvarez concludes the statement by reiterating his “adherence” to the teachings of the Church and his will to “faithfully transmit them”, as well as his communion with Pope Francis and his magisterium.
