The Cabildo has detected a break in the pipe that transports reclaimed water from Balten for agricultural irrigation in Las Bajas, in the municipality of Güímar. The Minister of Agriculture, Javier Parrilla, assures that “at the moment we have enough water to guarantee the irrigation supply to Balten subscribers for a month and a half, although the fault will be resolved in 15 days.”
According to a first assessment, the damage was caused by the waves and the lateral displacement of the two tubes at their junction, as a direct consequence of the construction of a stone breakwater – the City Council spent 94,000 euros there – for the containment of a slope of land of an access track, caused by the weight of the material supported on the conduit.
