Silken bets on Puerto de la Cruz to open its third hotel in the Canary Islands

The company Silken continues its commitment to expansion in the Canary Islands with the purchase of the hotel Saaj Maar, in full walk San Telmo, one of the most iconic areas of Cross port, in First sea line and with a new bioclimatic architecture. This is the company’s third hotel in the Canary Islands, which already manages the Silken Atlantis, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the Silken Saaj Las Palmas, in the capital of Gran Canaria.

The new 4-star superior establishment is scheduled to open in October 2022. It is a hotel shop adults only, with 70 rooms. FIt is part of the expansion plan scheduled for 2022, which includes two more hotels: the Malaga Maravilla Palace, in Estepona, and Platja d’Aro, in Girona. The chain already has 28 establishments under management and another 7 under marketing contract.

Silken Hotels, the first national hotel chain based in the Basque Country, highlights its commitment to “hotels in magical places”. For this reason, its new bet is in Puerto de la Cruz, on the island of Tenerife, where the Hotel Silken Saaj Maar is incorporated, the old hotel San Telmo, in the heart of the San Telmo promenade and next to Lago Martiánez, the work of the prestigious Lanzarote architect César Manrique.

The Hotel Silken Saaj Maar It is located in the place that joins the most important neuralgic points of the city and that naturally links residents and visitors with the sea. Between the hermitage of San Telmo and the Punta del Viento viewpoint, which owes its name to being oriented in the direction of the prevailing wind, from where you can see a beautiful panoramic view of the San Telmo beach. Many residents and visitors gather at this viewpoint to admire the spectacular breaking of the waves against the cliffs.

Silken defines the Saaj Maar as a hurban boutique hotel”with all the comforts and ready to become one of the benchmarks in Puerto de la Cruz for tourists and locals”. It has five floors with a careful avant-garde and luxury design, in which the wind has a leading role through different elements. The building is designed in a sustainable way, so both the cooling of the building and its insulation are produced thanks to architectural devices, “such as the porous coating based on aluminum tiles on the façade, which reduce solar indecency, as well as a roof crowned by a pergola of photovoltaic panels”.

Silken offers more than three thousand rooms and generates more than a thousand direct jobs. During the pandemic, Silken invested 25 million in digitizing and renovating its establishments.

Their 70 rooms they have double independent or triple typology, and quadruple in the modality of connecting room. The rooms facing the façade have a terrace with unparalleled views of the Atlantic.

On the fifth floor, the reception floor, there is also the first of the restaurants. Other uses are linked to this restaurant-buffet, such as the kitchen and the general floor toilets, one of them adapted. In the center of the floor there is an area occupied by the swimming pool, which has the peculiarity of having a transparent corner, visible from the reception.

In the plant rooftop the second of the restaurants is located. This place is called to become one of the leisure benchmarks for tourists and locals in Puerto de la Cruz. Its restaurant service, its swimming pool and its solarium area seasoned with unprecedented views of the sea and Mount Teide make this rooftop an emblematic and essential place. This privileged space can be transformed into a multipurpose space in specific time slots, such as holding events or conferences.

The basement floor hides another surprise: the spa, wellness area and gym, with a thermal circuit and a state-of-the-art fitness center that will complete the experience.

Javier Villanueva: “Silken’s vocation is to continue growing”

Silken’s general manager, Javier Villanueva, stresses that “with the incorporation of Silken Saaj Maar in Puerto de la Cruz, we are thus expanding a range of vibrant destinations that serve, and allow me the metaphor, as a booster dose against the weariness caused by the pandemic”. In his opinion, “both this hotel and the other two that we already have in the Canary Islands reinforce our commitment to both holiday and business tourism in the islands.” Villanueva highlights that “Silken’s vocation is to continue growing and choosing destinations in unique places, as is the case of Silken Saaj Maar, right on the San Telmo promenade and on the beachfront, destined to become essential. Our DNA is that of urban, business hotels, with four-star hotels that include gastronomy and restaurants, but now we mix the concepts of business and leisure, which leads us to a commitment to urban leisure: that someone who comes on a trip for work for several days, stay longer and discover and enjoy the destinations”.
