The XI Exceltur Tourism Leadership Forum and the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Municipalities of Spain, which brings together the eight main destinations of these characteristics in Spain -among them Arona-, have marked the previous day to the inauguration of Fitur 2022, the most relevant fair in the sector of those held at a national level and one of the most important worldwide, in which the municipality will participate within the spaces of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands and of the Government of the Canary Islands itself. All this while in the different booth the works are finalized in order to leave them ready for the official opening.
At a time when the coronavirus pandemic has raised questions with the appearance of new variants, Fitur has become a key debate forum, not only for promotion, but also for debate, with the presence of more than a hundred from countries distributed in 7,000 exhibitors throughout eight pavilions, all between January 19 and 23.
In the case of Arona, both in the Exceltur forum and in the Alliance meeting, its mayor, José Julián Mena, and the councilor for the Tourism area, José Alberto Delgado, are expected to attend, although the main day of the municipality It will be next Thursday, when the official presentation will take place.
XI Exceltur Forum
The program of the Exceltur forum, which was scheduled to last throughout the day, has been marked by the analysis of substantive issues, such as the trends and scenarios that are opening up in the tourism sector after the Covid-19 pandemic, the reactivation of the economy and tourism, the digital transformation of destinations as a key piece in the recovery of the sector, mobility and connectivity policies or sustainability.
All this with the presence of leaders such as the second and third vice presidents of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, and Teresa Ribera, respectively, the presidents of different autonomous governments and the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, in addition to the main directors of companies related to the communications, connectivity or the accommodation sector, among others.
José Julián Mena: “Unity and dialogue in the face of uncertainties”
The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, has underlined the importance of “unity between all the actors, public and private, that are part of the main sector of the economy of municipalities like ours, a consensus that is essential to deal with the new obstacles that have been opened in recent months in the face of tourism recovery, in which factors such as the commitment to sustainability or digitization will be key.
José Alberto Delgado: “A key market for Arona”
The councilor responsible for the Tourism area has stressed the importance of “Arona being present once again at this international and national fair, a market, the latter, which represents around 11% of the total for the municipality, almost 174,000 people, a very important figure that we want to recover with all the health security conditions, as the recovery takes place”.
Likewise, he stressed that it is essential to highlight “the tourist benefits of the municipality, since Arona is a destination that has much to offer as a complementary offer to sun and beach tourism”.
