Arona addresses in the Fitur forum, with the tourism sector and the main national destinations, “the uncertainties surrounding the recovery”. The mayor, José Julián Mena, together with the Councilor for Tourism, José Alberto Delgado, attended the XI Exceltur Tourism Leadership Forum and the meeting of the board of directors of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Tourism Municipalities. Both appointments have marked the day prior to the official opening of the Fair.

At the Exceltur meeting, the main players in the sector have addressed the new uncertainties created by the pandemic, as well as challenges, including digitization. All while the work was being finalized to get the stands ready for today’s inauguration. The meeting of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Municipalities of Spain brings together the eight main destinations, including Arona.

Spaces.

The municipality will participate in the most relevant fair in the sector at a national level within the spaces of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands and the Government of the Canary Islands itself. Tomorrow will be the main day for the southern destination when the official presentation will take place. The program of the Exceltur forum has been marked by the analysis of substantive issues, such as the trends and scenarios that are opening up in the tourism sector after the Covid-19 pandemic; the reactivation of the economy and tourism; the digital transformation of destinations as a key piece in the recovery of the sector, mobility and connectivity policies or sustainability. All this with the presence of leaders such as the second and third vice presidents of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, and Teresa Ribera, respectively, the presidents of different autonomous governments and the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, in addition to the main directors of companies related to the communications, connectivity or the accommodation sector.

«Unity and dialogue».

The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, has underlined the importance of “unity between all the actors, public and private, that are part of the main sector of the economy of municipalities like ours”. He advocates “a consensus that is essential to face the new obstacles that have been opened in recent months in the face of tourism recovery with key factors such as sustainability or digitization.”

“A key market”.

The Councilor for Tourism, José Alberto Delgado, has stressed the importance of «Arona being present at this fair to focus our proposal on a national market that represents around 11% of the total for the municipality, almost 174,000 people. We want to recover them with all the conditions of health security ». He stressed that it is essential to highlight “the tourist benefits of the municipality, since Arona is a destination that has much to offer as a complementary offer to the sun and beach”.
