The fire in the Granadilla scrapyard, practically under control

The Firefighters of Tenerife have practically controlled the fire that broke out this Tuesday in a scrapyard in Granadilla de Abona and are currently working on the extinction of the last active point.

As detailed by the Fire Department on social networks, most of the vehicles stored in these facilities, located on the Camino del Hermano Pedro, were not decontaminated, which is why there have been explosions of batteries, tires and fuel tanks.

As a precautionary measure, the Cabildo de Tenerife has launched a recommendation through social networks to people who are in the area affected by the column of smoke from the fire to withdraw or remain confined inside their homes.

This fire, of “large dimensions”, as described by the Firefighters of Tenerife, has been declared on the afternoon of this Tuesday in some fuel tanks located in the decontamination area of ​​the scrapyard.

Some thirty troops from the parks of San Miguel, Santa Cruz, Adeje and Guía de Isora participate in the extinction work with the support of six heavy urban pumps, a ladder truck, two command and control units, a personnel and cargo unit , three mother pumps and a GES helicopter for reconnaissance and perimeter work.

The Civil Guard, Local Police, road service and an ambulance from the Canary Emergency Service have also been mobilized, this one in a preventive way, point out sources from 112.

The 112 calls for caution to drivers traveling on the TF-1 due to the possible effect of the large column of smoke that the fire is generating.

AENA sources consulted by Efe indicate that the operation of the Tenerife South airport has not been affected.
