The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has decided to postpone the celebration of the Carnival festivities, scheduled for mid-February, to June due to the pandemic situation on the island.
Municipal sources have indicated that as a possible date it is proposed that the festivities can be held between June 4 to 26 with a format of contests and galas that take place abroad and not in closed venues.
The sources have commented that this is the last possibility that the Carnival can be celebrated this year and have underlined that, although in 2021 the gala and the activities that were carried out had an audiovisual format, in this edition they want it to be more traditional.
For now, street activities, such as parades or parties, are not considered until the evolution of the pandemic is studied.
If they are held in June, these festivities would coincide with the Cádiz carnival, also postponed for that month due to COVID.
The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, has already announced it to the Carnival groups, who have attended a telematic meeting. He also pointed out that they will be able to resume rehearsals in April.
