The Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries area of the Cabildo, led by the councilor Javier Parrilla, has awarded five training grants in the agricultural and agri-food sector. The objective is to complete the professional training of recently graduated university students and thus promote their labor insertion in the market of a sector in need of the incorporation of the young population. Parrilla explains that through these scholarships five new professionals will carry out training practices, for six months, in organic units attached to the technical services of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as Quality and Agrifood Valorization, respectively.
The scholarships will have a financial contribution of 900 euros per month and will have a maximum duration of thirty hours a week, at a rate of six hours a day, from Monday to Friday. Parrilla emphasizes the importance of offering practical training to recent graduates in agriculture and livestock to guarantee generational change: “They must have knowledge, but also be able to put it into practice while valuing their effort and capabilities.”
The scholarships are divided into four modalities. The Viticultural and Oenological Characterization will contribute to the study of viticulture, as well as to the analysis and analytical control of food, especially in relation to the wine matrix. The training in Conservation of Local Agricultural Varieties, meanwhile, is especially aimed at newly graduates in the agricultural sector and will address the processes of collection, management and documentation of local agricultural varieties collected.
The program on the Valorisation of Agrifood Products will deepen the preparation of fairs and events related to the promotion of products from the island; in the bromatological and organoleptic quality of agricultural and agri-food products; and in familiarization with the Quality System implemented in the Insular Laboratory, accredited by ENAC.
Finally, Agricultural Experimentation will focus on advising fruit and vegetable farms; in the preparation and design of tests, in the analysis of experimental data and in the elaboration of technical information.
