SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the area of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, has awarded five training grants in the agricultural and agri-food sector with the aim of completing the professional training of recently graduated university students and thus favoring their insertion in the market labor in a sector in need of the incorporation of the young population.
The counselor, Javier Parrilla, explains in a note that through these scholarships five new professionals in the sector will carry out training practices, for six months, in certain Organic Units attached to the Technical Service of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as the Technical Service of Quality and Agrifood Valorization.
The scholarships will have an economic contribution of 900 euros per month, and will have a maximum duration of thirty hours a week, at a rate of six hours a day, from Monday to Friday.
Parrilla emphasizes the importance of offering practical training to young graduates in agriculture and livestock to guarantee generational renewal.
“Young people must have knowledge, but they must also be able to put it into practice at the same time that their effort and abilities are valued,” he says.
In this sense, the counselor assures that these scholarships represent “a small instrument to help guarantee the future of the sector”, but also “to recognize all the men and women who are committed to the primary sector as a model of life, with all the effort that this entails “.
The scholarships are divided into four modalities: Viticultural and Oenological Characterization; Conservation of Local Agricultural Varieties, Valuation of Agri-food Products and two scholarships for Agricultural Experimentation.
The Viticultural and Oenological Characterization scholarship will contribute to the study of viticulture, as well as to the analysis and analytical control of food, especially in relation to the wine matrix.
The training practices will take place at the Insular Wine Laboratory (LIVITE) and at the central offices of the unit itself.
The training in Conservation of Local Agricultural Varieties is especially aimed at newly graduates in the agricultural sector, it will be developed at the Center for the Conservation of Agricultural Biodiversity of Tenerife (CCBAT), in Puerto de La Cruz, and will address the collection processes, management and documentation of the agricultural varieties collected, as well as the characterization, multiplication and conservation of local agricultural varieties.
The program on Valuation of Agri-food Products will deepen the methods of valuation of agricultural and agri-food products; in the preparation of fairs and events related to the promotion of the island’s products; in the bromatological and organoleptic quality of agricultural and agri-food products and in familiarization with the Quality System implemented in the Insular Laboratory, accredited by ENAC.
The Agricultural Experimentation grant will focus on advising fruit and vegetable farms; in the preparation and design of trials in fruit growing, horticulture and crop protection; the collection of data in agricultural experimental trials, the analysis of experimental data and the elaboration of technical information with the results of the horticultural and fruit-bearing experimental trials.
