Teachers, “disoriented” in the return to classes, demand screening and increase in staff in the Canary Islands

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ANPE union has recognized this Tuesday that the teachers have restarted the return to the course after the Christmas holidays “disoriented” by the lack of information from the Ministry of Education and therefore demands “urgent measures” to face the increase in infections and sick leave.

Thus, it proposes to improve the tracking of infections, prioritize the vaccination of the third dose for teachers, increase the covid teaching staff to be able to attend to students, have a telephone service to manage teacher losses, carry out vaccination of minors from 5 to 11 years old only in sanitary facilities authorized to do so and guarantee electronic devices in case of confinement, among other initiatives.

The trade union organization considers that the treatment of educational professionals “is not being adequate” and understands that, without extra measures, the new decisions – to lower the requirements for quarantines in classrooms, for example – “pose a health risk and educational for the entire school community, but also for the rest of society, since they will contribute to continue saturating primary care “.

The president, Pedro Crespo, explains that “the most complicated situations can occur in Early Childhood Education and Special Education, where there is no interpersonal distance or masks” and insists that the current epidemiological situation “will cause teacher losses and further increase the saturation of care primary, that is, it will have effects at different levels and will affect the whole of society. “

In his opinion, “it is evident that we are not in the same scenario as before, but, although we are vaccinated and the disease is milder, we are going to find many casualties in educational centers due to the speed with which this variant spreads, and those casualties will be covered late. “

In the first place, he continues, “because if all goes well the minimum time to cover a sick leave ranges between 3 and 4 days, second, because right now the sick leave is being processed with a long delay due to the overload of the health system, that It means that when a substitute can be requested, the holder’s quarantine will have ended, but the students will have already missed all those days of class and a difficult situation to manage in the educational center will have been generated “.

Along these lines, Crespo wonders “what will happen” if there are several Kindergarten or Primary teachers in this situation, because with the bubble group system the students from different classrooms cannot mix and insists on “who will attend to those students if not do we have support staff, what role did the covid teaching staff do in these stages? “.

DO NOT MANAGE VACCINATION PERMITS

Regarding the possible vaccination in educational centers, he emphasizes that the procedure would require authorization from all families “in a timely manner, something complex to manage, especially in centers with high enrollment”, while there may be “conflicts” with parents separated, which would cause added problems for the teaching community.

“We also fear that there may be cases of discrimination between vaccinated and unvaccinated students. We understand that under no circumstances should an educational center be in charge of managing vaccination permits, it is an extremely delicate issue that the health authorities must take care of”, adds the union representative.
