The Plenary of Congress gave the green light last December to the bill that modifies the consolidated text of the Law on Traffic, Circulation of Motor Vehicles and Safety, after approving practically all of the amendments introduced in the text by the Senate.
The new regulations, which will come into force in March, implies the aggravation of the penalties provided for those behaviors that generate greater risk for driving, such as use of mobile phone while steering wheel or misuse of the safety and protection elements of the vehicle.
In this regard, the Local Police of La Laguna He has warned citizens through his Twitter profile that “using mobile phone devices while holding them while driving will be penalized with 200 euros and six points.” And it is that distraction with the aforementioned device at the wheel is the main cause of traffic accidents.

Among other novelties included in this reform are the penalty with four not using the seat belt, child restraint systems (child seats), helmet and other protection elements; as well as the mandatory nature of the helmet for users of personal mobility vehicles, such as scooters.
The new law also replaces the serious offense consisting of “using” radar or cinemometer detection mechanisms for the mere fact of “carrying” these devices in the vehicle.
