The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism published on December 29 the list of beneficiary entities of the call corresponding to the 2021 exercise of the Extraordinary Program for Sustainable Tourism in Destinations 2021-2023, aimed at local entities, and which is included in the Strategy of Sustainable Tourism, which is endowed with 615 million euros, which comes entirely from the recovery funds of the EU, Next Generation. A call in which the Santa Cruz City Council has obtained 5.3 million for the development of three projects that make the capital a sustainable tourist destination. Interventions that are financed in full with the amount granted by the Ministry.
The Canary Islands have obtained 49.59 million from this extraordinary call made by Tourism, of which Tenerife is left with just over 12 million, adding to the 5.3 from Santa Cruz another 7.4 granted to the Cabildo de Tenerife.
According to the details of the projects offered by the Government of Spain, in the case of the capital, one of the initiatives for which the City Council has obtained funding is the repair and improvement of the northeast breakwater of Las Teresitas beach. A project for which the Infrastructure area has already put out to tender the drafting of the work for 95,000 euros. Throughout this year, the area is confident that it will also be able to put out to tender the execution of the works. The second of the interventions that will be financed thanks to this extraordinary call is the improvement in the coastal platform of the bicycle and pedestrian lanes that goes from Palmetum to Valleseco, and which has encountered multiple difficulties so far for its development. Finally, the third project to be developed will be the creation of an intelligent tourist information system, which will facilitate visitors access to the different tourist attractions that the city has.
In the case of the Cabildo, the projects for which it has obtained funding are the creation of a network of equipment for bird watching; a sustainable tourism mobility network, a digital tourism platform and the creation of the Tenerife Smart Office.
In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Cabildo de El Hierro has also obtained funding for the creation of an eco-cycling tour between Los Mocanes and Puntagrande, in addition to the creation of an astronomical park, the adaptation of trails in the Sustainability Park of Las Cancelitas and advice for the digitization of companies in El Hierro. For this it will have 2.8 million.
The Cabildo de La Gomera has also obtained money for the maintenance and improvement of the network of trails, installation of solar panels to recharge bicycles and the development of tourist products, with financing of 3.3 million. In total, the province receives about 18.8 million, compared to the 18.5 that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has obtained.

In the neighboring province, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura receives 9.1 million to rehabilitate trails and viewpoints, create a bike lane in the coastal area, promote the energy sustainability of the beaches, and for the creation of smart tourist information points.
The Mogán City Council obtains 7.4 million to pedestrianize the waterfront, create a green path in the Mogán ravine, the purchase of an electric tourist bus and the improvement of the energy efficiency of the lighting. While the Consistory of Valsequillo will dedicate two million to the improvement of the landscape and reforestation of the municipality, to the creation of equestrian and cycling routes, an interpretation center and thematic tourist routes (water, strawberry and honey),
In addition, all councils will receive part of the 3.6 million that the Ministry of Tourism allocates to create or consolidate tourism products that promote a global and cohesive image that consolidates the Canary Islands as a sustainable and quality tourist destination, through the diversification of its offer, the development of new markets and the design of tourism products with a sustainable base, all under the name of ACD Destinations Ecoínsulas.
Finally, the Association of Tourist Municipalities receives another eight million, to have mechanisms for measuring the quality of water on the beaches, control of capacity in parking lots and beaches, and efficient management of irrigation water.
