The change of luminaires will be one of the improvements that is introduced in the new contract. Sergio Mendez

The Santa Cruz City Council has approved the tender procedure for hiring the service of maintenance of electrical installations in public spaces and in buildings owned or managed by the municipal government of the city, with a base budget of 27,556,059.20 euros and a term of four years, at a rate, therefore, of about seven million euros per year.

Once the tender announcement has been published, interested companies may submit offers until February 8, 2022, as explained by the first deputy mayor and mayor of Community Welfare and Public Services of the City Council, Guillermo Díaz Guerra. The contract includes the provision of the conservation, maintenance and renovation service of the public lighting installations in the capital.

Díaz Guerra pointed out that “the investment in these four years has increased considerably, since it almost quadruples the previous one, which will allow the Public Services area of the Santa Cruz City Council to carry out lighting improvements in many areas of the city in each of the next four years ”.

The mayor explained that the tender is configured in two lots. On the one hand, there is the service of maintenance, conservation and improvement of electrical and accessory installations in public spaces, for which an amount of 18,341,516.44 euros has been allocated. On the other, a total amount of 9,214,542.76 euros for maintenance, conservation and improvement of electrical and accessory installations in municipally owned or managed buildings. Díaz Guerra explained that “the division of the contract into two lots is carried out for better management, since, on the one hand, it is for the investment and improvement of light points on roads and streets of the city, and, on the other, in schools and municipal offices ”.

He also stated that the investment is increasing and is destined, among other actions, to the conditioning and improvement of energy efficiency, and added that a lighting map will be carried out, in which new facilities are incorporated in public spaces such as points of recharging and generation of renewable energies. Likewise, the modernization of the facilities is contemplated to integrate them into the Smart City.

Finally, Díaz Guerra stressed that “within the maintenance and conservation services, energy saving and efficiency measures will be applied in public lighting installations, such as the replacement of lighting fixtures with other more efficient ones.”

Replacement of luminaires

Regarding lighting, although it is already outside the maintenance contract, some 40 light points will be replaced in Anaga, worth 500,000 euros, an action that will be carried out with DUSI funds. In addition, in the downtown area of the capital, a project has been submitted to the Next Generation funds of the EU, to proceed with the change of luminaires. A performance that would reach 90,000 euros.
