SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The judicial authority has decreed prison for nine patrons of the cayuco that was rescued on December 16 and transferred to the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 105 sub-Saharan Africans, who indicated that during the journey the lifeless bodies of 17 people were thrown into the sea.

This has been reported by the National Police, which adds that the irregular vessel was initially detected in the southwest of Gran Canaria by the Maritime Rescue services and the Civil Guard, transferring them to the port of the Tenerife capital.

The agents of the National Police Corps specialized in the matter traveled to the place to provide assistance to these people and carry out the investigation procedures that were necessary.

The troops were particularly struck by the fact that some of the migrants, upon arrival, stated that 17 traveling companions had died during the trip and their bodies had been thrown into the ocean from the boat.

In this way, the investigators, thanks to the investigations carried out, determined that the cayuco left Banjul, Gambia, 17 days before being located in the ocean, obtaining sufficient evidence to detain nine of the migrants for the alleged responsibility of a crime of favoring clandestine immigration.

Finally, the detainees were admitted to prison, after being heard in a statement, by order of the competent judicial authority.
