«The brake» to the privatization model deactivates the stoppages in the Post Office

CCOO and UGT, the majority unions in the Post Office, have suspended the planned strikes for three days this month for the “halt to the privatization model and dismantling of the public company.” The strike days should have started yesterday and have continuity tomorrow and 12. The call, despite everything, “remains active to provide coverage in the event that an attempt is made to impose the model”. On the island, the service of 700 postmen from practically all of Tenerife would have been affected.

The President of the Post Office, Juan Manuel Serrano, has scrapped the plan to dismantle 2,000 distribution units of the whole country that affected almost 30 thousand workers.

In Tenerife, the level of impact of the strike was significant, almost 700 postmen and wallets called to her. Some delivery units were particularly affected, such as those in Puerto de la Cruz, Taco-Barranco Grande, Playa de Las Américas, Tejina, or San Miguel de Abona.

In some of these centers the new model «of chaos in the distribution»As the unions rate it. A modification carried out, moreover, “without warning, with treachery and at night.” In spite of everything, the Workers’ Commissions “do not trust going backwards” and announce that they “will be vigilant so that the situation is completely normalized.”

Union leaders from Correos in a demonstration in December. The day

In addition Workers Commissions denounces «the annulment of almost 20 contracts in the Automated Treatment Centers (CTA) of Tenerife from one day to the next and by means of a telephone call to those affected, without informing the unions of anything “.

These sources value that this decision is taken “when there are still many shipments pending delivery and thousands of complaints fromand the citizens on the Island only demonstrate the negligence in their work of the managers in it and throughout the Canary Islands.

The Correos unions explain that on December 28, President Juan Manuel Serrano, «Pressured by the call for a general strike of CCOO and UGT, 70% of the representation of the workforce “summoned a table that they understand as” alegal “of urgency in which he was” forced to withdraw the plan to dismantle 2,000 distribution units agreed with CSIF, Free Trade Union and CIG (24% in Correos) ».

Serrano “has had to assume the main demands of the strike committee: stop the dismantling of the 1,800 distribution units scheduled for before January 15 and reverse the measure among the 200 in which it had already been implemented.

The company links system with improvement

From Correos they clarify that “the new distribution model is a necessary transformation to guarantee the quality of the service and the stability of employment.” Correos considers that “the call for a strike by the CCOO and UGT unions is not justified” because, among other reasons, “the distribution network requires a transformation process to take on the internal and external challenges that are being posed to us” . This process, they point out, “is marked by the acceleration of the drop in postal activity and the need to adapt infrastructures and the means for the entry of new businesses and the consolidation of the parcel business, in addition to maintaining a firm commitment to the provision of quality public service ».
