A man in critical condition after suffering a heart attack in the Basilica de la Candelaria

A 65-year-old man has had to be hospitalized after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest inside the Basilica of Candelaria, in Tenerife, as reported by the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) 1-1-2.

The event occurred at around 10.45 am, when the 1-1-2 operating room received an alert in which it was reported that a man had suffered a blackout inside the Basilica and was not responding.

Local Police agents, who were in the area, immediately went to the scene and, after verifying that the affected person was in cardiorespiratory arrest, they began to perform basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers that they completed with a shock from the semi-automatic defibrillator available to them.

Upon arriving at the scene, the SUC staff continued assisting the patient, managing to recover the affected person’s pulse. Once stabilized, he was transferred in critical condition in a medicalized ambulance to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital.
