Los Realejos incorporates 24 scholarship holders for its libraries and study rooms

The Los Realejos Town Hall allocates 63,554 euros to the incorporation of 24 university scholars who will collaborate in the operation of the libraries and study rooms of the municipality until the end of the year. The first deputy mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González (PP), on Monday, January 3, welcomed the first 12 university students of the municipality who benefit from this annual call for municipal scholarships, to which another dozen students will be added for the second semester of 2022.

The beneficiaries are a total of 24 young people between the ages of 17 and 25 from Los Realejos, all enrolled at the University of La Laguna and unemployed, who submitted to the open call between October and November of the recently concluded 2021. Those selected have completed the assessment criteria set out in the bases in this training initiative with internships and financial aid.

“The training project in the management and support of the activities of revitalization in these public spaces, promoted by the Los Realejos Town Hall and tutored since the Local Development Agency Y the Department of Education, will encourage these students to complement their own academic training with that of library science and sociocultural animation in libraries for a period of six months and with a monthly aid of 348.41 euros”, According to what is stated in the bases of the call.

Adolfo Gonzalez It highlights “the multiple objectives that this initiative fulfills: the improvement of training and the curriculum of young people from Los Realejos; the financial support involved in accessing these scholarships to pay for expenses related to their own studies or of another nature, as well as the best provision of services to citizens with what their presence supposes for the reinforcement of care in these municipal infrastructures such as the library network and study rooms of the municipality or other resources for social and cultural use ”.

Those selected will develop the practices in the Municipal Library Viera y Clavijo, in the peripheries of Toscal Longuera, Icod el Alto, La Montaña, La Cruz Santa, Palo Blanco and Realejo Bajo, in the Municipal House of Culture, in the CEO La Pared and in CEIP Palo Blanco, distributed in these spaces. Depending on the service demand, they could be temporarily assigned to others such as the Municipal Youth House or the Rafael Yanes Study Room.

The training itinerary is made up of different modules and units, such as those of information and training of library users, management of the library’s collection in terms of organization and maintenance, the library loan service and cultural and library extension, which is added to the module of non-labor professional practices.

The Canarian Association for the Promotion of Social Development Generation 21, awarded the training project whose tender promoted the Los Realejos Town Hall, presented among other improvements in its offer complementing training modules in the field of equal opportunities, environmental awareness and job orientation, or develop actions, programs and activities in library spaces to promote citizen participation in reading animation.
