The traditional giant roscón de Reyes from La Orotava sold out in just over three hours this Tuesday, since it began to be sold at 2:00 p.m. and was expected to last until 9:00 p.m. However, a new record has been broken and at 5:30 p.m., just three and a half hours after starting, the sweet roscón had already flown. “It’s delicious!” Say some of the lucky ones who managed to get hold of one of the 1,192 boxes containing the 12-centimeter portions, including 55 prizes.

The roscón This year it measured 143 meters and has been distributed with the corresponding sanitary measures. Last year it could not be held in person, but virtual, but in this tenth edition it did return to the face-to-face format, although with new features. Thus, and due to the current health situation, the portions were distributed in boxes.

The roscón was located as in previous years on Avenida Emilio Luque, in the area of La Milagrosa school, and the more than 1,000 boxes were distributed shaping a large roscón.

Citizens were asked to give maximum collaboration to the people who attend the event, complying with all the protocols and sanitary measures indicated. When removing the individual box, which was to take away not to eat at this point, they paid € 1, a donation to benefit the Red Cross.

In the boxes, next to the portions, there were surprises or gifts donated by businesses in La Orotava. Participants who have benefited from these gifts must go to the indicated store to collect it. There was also animation in the streets of this commercial area.

The great sweet was pastry cream. The Manobuena patisserie was one more year, and there are already 10, responsible for making about 300 liters of the filling cream, using about 1,266 eggs, 158 liters of milk, 12 kilos of cornstarch, 47 kilos of sugar, 2 kilos of lemons and 325 cinnamon.

While the dough was made this year, for the first time, in the facilities of the Jovita Bakery. Among other things, about 150 kilos of flour have been used in the dough; 790 eggs; 40 kilos of orange; 20 kilos of margarine; 10 butter; 10 kilos of sugar; 1 kilos vanilla; 1 kilo of lemon. Five people have participated in the preparation.

This act has become a benchmark for Christmas in the North of Tenerife, and is the prelude to receive Their Majesties the Three Wise Men from the East, since tomorrow they will make a special visit to the Villa to take a Royal Walk throughout the municipality and at night they will distribute magical gifts.

This initiative was organized by the Local Economic Development area and aims, in addition to offering more attractiveness to residents, to boost commercial activity.

From the City Council a special thanks is directed to the group of Red Cross volunteers who provided collaboration during the organization of this event. The involvement of the participating companies Manobuena and Panadería Jovita is also appreciated. And special thanks also to the León Panificadora for their altruistic work from the beginning in this initiative. The collaboration of the participating businesses is also appreciated.
