Lara came to the world yesterday 48 minutes after the entrance of the new Year, with 4 kilos and 200 grams of weight, in the Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital, in Tenerife, becoming the first baby born in 2022 in Canary Islands. Twenty-two minutes later, at 1:11 a.m. Erick arrived, who weighed 3 kilos and 725 grams and was also born in La Candelaria. While Nora, the first birth in Gran canaria, at Maternal and Child University Hospital, came to life at 02:48, weighing 3 kilos and 145 grams. All three, like their mothers, are in good health.

In the hospitals of the rest of the islands of the Archipelago, until noon yesterday, there were no more births, according to information provided by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.

In the case of Gran_Canaria’s baby, her name is Nora Díaz Hernández and she is the first daughter of Julia Hernández, 29 years old from Tenerife and a veterinarian by profession; and Tenesor Díaz, a 35-year-old electrician from Gran Canaria.

The little girl anticipated her arrival in the world, since the expected date of delivery was next January 5, but the girl arrived in the early hours of the New Year, says her mother, who will turn 30 on January 20. “I broke my bag in the morning and they had to induce me to labor and wait until four in the morning, but she was born earlier. The experience has been very beautiful and faster than I expected ”, said Nora’s mother.

Julia received childbirth preparatory classes, which she also attended with her partner. “The girl falls asleep with him and is very happy,” he emphasizes.

The girl from Gran Canaria, the first daughter of Julia and Tenesor, anticipated her arrival scheduled for January 5

Nora’s paternal grandmother, Juana María, who works as a clinical assistant at the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria, is the only one who so far has been able to visit Nora and see her parents, because visits are restricted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the earliest babies in the country are the Catalan Alexa and the Valencian Hugo, both were born when 2022 had just begun, just at 00.00, one in Barcelona and the other in Gandía.

They are some of the babies born during the first bars of the new year, which in the Balearic Islands has brought the Menorcan twins Alba and Blai.

Alexa, who was born in the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, weighed 3.7 kilos, and her parents, Valentina and Alexander, were able to hug her at midnight, just after the last stroke.

Just as early riser was little Hugo who, at midnight on the dot, was born at the Francesc de Borja Hospital in Gandía, weighing 3.2 kilos.

Iker is the first baby born in 2022 in Galicia, he is also the first child of María and Carlos and, for now, a quiet child who in these first hours of life has dedicated himself to “eating and sleeping and nothing else” without giving much can to their parents. According to his father, the little boy “hardly cries” and “everything went well”, so he hopes that “everything continues like this” so that he can take the little one to his home in Teo (A Coruña) as soon as possible. The birth of Iker, who weighed 3,140 kilos, was made to wait until 1:01 of the new year and came to the world at the Hospital Clínico de Santiago.

The restrictions that prevail due to the pandemic have supposed an anomalous situation in these births, since as Carlos, Iker’s father recalled, no more visits are allowed and he has been able to be in the hospital after performing a PCR that was negative. “They already warn you so that you are not going in and out and nobody comes because the children are delicate, because of ours and because of the rest of the plant.” According to him, the experience has been “good”, and he wishes that in 2022 “everything continues to turn out well.”

Now they have to “readjust” upon the arrival of their son, for which they will have the support of their family who live nearby.

With a little more weight, the second baby of the year was born in Galicia, María, at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo, weighing 32,450 kilos, and the daughter of Iria and Óscar. His birth occurred at 1.07 in the morning.
