SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife has awarded a subsidy of 1,354,999.88 euros to the island’s livestock sector in order to defray part of the expenses derived from feeding sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, rabbits and poultry.
Thus, a total of 303 livestock farms, which generate more than 1,500 direct jobs, will benefit from this aid, which aims to contribute to sustaining productivity and economic recovery of agricultural holdings.
The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, recalls in a note that “feed prices have multiplied in recent times and it should be there.”
The counselor also emphasizes that this “is one of the fundamental lines set by the island president, Pedro Martín, in our livestock policy for Tenerife, together with the implementation of a forage plan”.
These aid for the feeding of the cattle are added to those of preservation and improvement of the autochthonous cattle breeds (with an amount of 30,000 euros and recently summoned); to aid to the Livestock Health Defense Associations (ADSG), worth 100,000 euros and to 150,000 euros for artisanal cheese factories to control the quality of milk “for which they exceed 1.6 million euros for this year”.
The subsidy has been awarded to 282 producers “who have a total of 303 cattle farms and who hold more than 1,500 jobs,” remarks the counselor.
In this sense, Parrilla values the campaigns for the promotion and commercial impulse of livestock launched by the corporation, “such as the presentation of the brand ‘Carnes Frescas Tenerife’, which aims to differentiate our local product in our stores and supermarkets , and which is closely linked to the circular economy, which provides direct benefits to the whole of Tenerife society “.
In the area of artisan cheese, the counselor recalls that promotional and dissemination actions have also been carried out, from the Tenerife Island Cheese Contest to tastings, “such as the one carried out on December 16 at the Casa del He came from El Sauzal “.
Recently, in addition, the Cabildo de Tenerife approved a motion in favor of the agricultural biodiversity of the Canary Islands “as one of the determining values in the definition of Tenerife’s identity”, a fact that, in the opinion of Parrilla, can contribute to conserve and enhance the products that are more adapted to the conditions of the local agrosystems, “that is to say, those varieties and races that have been conserved by the local population over time, the canariety is definitely diversity”.
