SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Cabildo, through the Tourism area, has approved the signing of a collaboration agreement with the La Orotava City Council to launch a works project for the realization of a paraglider launch platform in the Izaña area. , for an amount of 458,614 euros.

“The Cabildo of Tenerife will invest almost half a million euros in La Orotava to improve an area used by paragliders in Izaña that due to its continued use is in poor condition,” said the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, in a note. who also pointed out that this agreement “is the response to a need that has been generated on the island, due to the boom in flight sports, and that it will order the take-off areas, facilitating the conditions and ensuring that this activity does not generate damage to the place “.

These works will be included in the Strategic Framework for the Improvement of the Tourist Product in the chapter dedicated to activities in nature, and will be executed in accordance with the MEDI-FDCAN financing program.

“The works will be carried out at the Igueque viewpoint, on a plot located 2,200 meters above sea level, in a place that is currently very deteriorated due to use,” said the island’s director of Tourism, Laura Castro. , who added that “this location is one of the most used since its spectacularity as it is the highest takeoff in Spain and has the possibility of landing next to the sea.”

The planned intervention in this project includes the creation of an access point to the platform from the viewpoint, the conditioning and delimitation of the road to the take-off point, the removal of unauthorized pre-existing roads, the construction of foundations and the construction of a floating wooden platform for take-off, in addition to the installation of a wind chute and the corresponding signage.

Castro also highlighted the importance of “adventure sports in the island’s tourist proposal, and hence the convenience of enabling safe and controlled spaces that allow these activities to be carried out in a sustainable and respectful manner.”
