The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands has already granted the City Council of San Juan de la Rambla a direct subsidy of 1,614,345 euros that will make possible the long-awaited restoration of the historic house Delgado Oramas, from the eighteenth century, and its conversion into a small emblematic school hotel, which will be the first in the town of Ramblero. The City Council invested in early 2021 about 200,000 euros in the acquisition of this house on the brink of ruin.
The mayor of the Villa de San Juan de la Rambla, Ezequiel Domínguez (PSOE), celebrated yesterday the news of the processing of this direct subsidy “which will allow the recovery works of this iconic mansion to begin soon.” For the northern president, «San Juan de la Rambla and your heritage are in luck. And for a double reason. On the one hand because we will be able to avoid the ruin and the foreseeable collapse of one of the most representative mansions of the historic center of the 18th century architecture and, on the other hand, because it is to be celebrated that the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate of Infrastructure Tourist who runs Fernando Miñarro, has been sensitive to our request and has understood the importance of this work for the tourist development of the municipality and the rest of the region.
«Thanks to this contribution, which initially pays for the total of the rehabilitation action infrastructure, we will be able to meet an old municipal demand and turn construction into the epicenter of tourist development in the town. We are committed to the creation of a rural hotel that serves as an employability and training center. To do this, we must start the bidding and award process shortly. Once this procedure has been completed, the projected work is expected to last 24 months, ”according to Ezequiel Domínguez. If there are no delays, the action could be concluded in 2024.
Fernando Miñarro considers that «the recovery of this 18th century building to turn it into an emblematic hotel and tourist information point is an example of how we can conserve and enhance our historical and cultural heritage. In addition, it contributes to the promotion of a responsible tourism model, which enhances local economic development and job creation in a sustainable way.
The proposed works consist of the recovery of the building to put it in public use, “taking special care to respect the original state.” Each floor will be adapted to the needs of the future hotel. The basement will be used as a warehouse, and the ground floor will be used for the common areas for accommodation, the dining room, the reception, the garden, the swimming pool, the solarium and the tourist information point. On the first floor there will be the rooms, all doubles and with private bathroom, and on the top floor there will be two special category rooms with terrace.
Located on La Alhóndiga street, the Delgado Oramas house occupies an area of 594 square meters. It was built in the third quarter of the 18th century, although over the centuries it has undergone several modifications. It has two floors and a third interior floor that is distributed around a main patio accessed by two hallways. The backyard is made up of a long open gallery with a tile roof, tile floor, tea wood and still, which gives access to a large garden. The exterior supposes a mixture of the architecture of the time and of the XIX century, since the facade was reformed to repair the damage caused by the great barrage of 1826.
