The insular group of CC-PNC has requested an Extraordinary Plenary of the Cabildo «to avoid the burning of waste in the Environmental Complex of Tenerife (CAT) », located in Arico. The nationalist formation explains that “there is an agreement on November 19 approved by a majority with the votes of our group together with the Popular Party and Si Podemos Canarias to suspend the tender for the CAT incinerator.” However, they add, «Pedro Martin (President) and the PSOE are not complying with it ». They value that “they have continued with the procedure, skipping the agreement and trying to impose the incinerator by force. Like it or not, we are in a democracy and we must respect what the majority vote.
From CC they argue; “We have resorted to the procedure provided for in local legislation to resolve the lack of compliance with the agreements that are made in the Plenary and the Plenary Committee.” The petitioners understand that “there is a conflict of powers that has to be resolved by the Plenary, so we have requested the extraordinary session. The CC group indicates that “we hope it is convened as soon as possible because we are talking about the burning of waste in Tenerife, something very serious.”
The nationalists insist that “there is an agreement of the Cabildo that the PSOE breaches”
The nationalists request the cancellation of the tender of the insular institution called Drafting the project, execution of the works and operation of a waste recovery facility, including recycling and other types of recovery (except energy recovery through oxidation incineration. suspend any act related to the aforementioned tender until the conflict of attribution of competences is definitively resolved “.
CC considers that «It is necessary to paralyze the project because what the PSOE wants to do is burn the garbage through different processes such as pyrolysis, gasification and plasma instead of favoring reuse and recycling, which is indicated by the regulations.
The nationalist group recalls the plenary agreement of March 29, 2019 that declares the Island of Tenerife a Territory Free of Incinerators. Conclude; “It was approved by all groups and implies the explicit renunciation of incineration as a method to solve the island’s waste management.”
