The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, has conveyed to the Insular Water Council (Ciaft) the need for the town of Barranco Hondo to have its own treatment plant, given its remoteness from the regional treatment plant (Edaru) already built in Arafo, where the other wastewaters of the Candelariero municipality would go, from Punta Larga to San Blas, as well as later those that come from Igueste, Araya, Cuevecitas and Malpaís, in the midlands, to complete a sanitation network that would have a cost over 20 million euros.
Brito will propose the treatment plant in Barranco Hondo, for which the Hydrological Plan of Tenerife would have to be changed, he recalled, after not accepting the initial idea that the wastewater from that area would be connected to the EBAR of Tabaiba, in the municipality of El Rosario .
On the other hand, the Candelaria City Council approved last Thursday in an extraordinary and urgent plenary session the agreement between the Ciaf to receive an economic contribution of 976,733 euros to execute the EBAR line of Punta Larga-EBAR of San Blas.
The work is part of Phase 1 of the project Actions for the incorporation of wastewater from the Candelaria coast to the Regional Sanitation, Purification and Regeneration system of the Güímar Valley and has a total budget of 3,971,923 euros. The rest of the financing for this project will be in charge of the Cooperation Plan of the Council of Tenerife, as well as municipal own funds, hoping that its execution can be tendered throughout 2022, once the precise sector reports are completed.
In this regard, the mayor announced that in the ordinary plenary session tomorrow, the last of the year, the agreement between the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Candelaria City Council for the execution of the rehabilitation of the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias will be considered. , a project that also includes another section of pipes in the sewerage network.
Likewise, Brito highlighted the Budget of the Autonomous Community 2022 collects financing worth almost seven million euros for the execution of the San Blas Pumping Station project (next to the Basilica) and its connection to the regional treatment plant. These projects will be financed through European funds to the Ministry of Ecological Transition within the framework of cooperation established in this matter between the Government of the Canary Islands and local entities.
