The Tacoronte Town Hall announces that it will tender in the first quarter of next year 2022 the comprehensive rehabilitation project of the Plaza de San Jerónimo, which partially collapsed in April 2020. The intention of the local government (NC-PSOE-SSP) is that the work is completed in September, although previously, next January, the project and its design will be submitted to neighborhood consultation.
The tacorontero mayor, Jose Daniel Diaz; the Councilor for Works, Antonio Gil Goya, and the Head of Security, Julio Navarro, recently visited the replacement works of the sunken pavement, the most urgent part of the action, since the space of the square that was detached ran along from the bed of a ravine and next to a busy road.
The three municipal officials met with neighborhood representatives, to whom they gave details of this first part of the recovery of the space, “which has suffered a certain delay due to technical reasons.” Will run shortly, “So it could be covered and open for provisional use even before January.”
“The area of the sinking could be covered and open for temporary use even before January”
Díaz Armas recalled that the action on the channel cover is an urgent work, as a consequence of a structural problem, which has been processed “with the conditions of the Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife, which determines the way to act in these spaces of public hydraulic domain ». And he adds that “this technical debate has taken a while, but we are already in full swing to put the slab in the area, improving safety and adjusting levels with the road.”
This action will be the first step, prior to the next design phase of a new public space, “which will be discussed and submitted to the neighborhood for consideration in January.” The objective of the local government is “to give a change to the area, but recovering the idiosyncrasy of the place and the traditional way of Tacoronte». This project is to be financed from the remnants of the municipal accounts.
