The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located five earthquakes overnight in the area affected by the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma, none of them felt by the population.
The seismicity continues under the central area of Cumbre Vieja, in the same areas of previous days. Two of the earthquakes are located at depths of less than 10 km, another two at intermediate depths, between 10 and 15 km, and one at depths greater than 20 km.
The maximum recorded magnitude was 2.5 (mbLg) corresponding to an earthquake located at 6:14 am, with a depth of 34 km. Yesterday 11 earthquakes were located, five of them with magnitudes greater than 2.0 (mbLg). Neither was felt.
Yesterday two earthquakes were also located between the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, one of them an event of magnitude 2.8 (mbLg) that occurred 12.30 hours at a depth of 18 km.
