The island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Zebenzuí Chinea, and the mayor of Garachico, Jose Heriberto Gonzalez, have signed this Thursday, December 23, the reconsideration act that will begin the construction of a multipurpose center in the urban area of Garachico, which will house the Municipal School of Music, as well as classrooms and approved workshops for training in theater and dance.
This performance, which is framed within the Insular Municipal Cooperation Plan 2014-2017, will have a budget of 753,192 euros and will be financed 90 percent by the Cabildo and 10 percent by the Garachico City Council, as explained Zebenzuí Chinea.
The island councilor announces that the works are expected to conclude on June 30, 2022, when the building will have all the necessary facilities to “boost the social and cultural activity of Garachico.” Jose Heriberto Gonzalez showed his appreciation to Council and to the counselor “for the diligence shown”, and celebrated the execution of this important work, “which has made it possible to eliminate a building in a lamentable state, which deteriorated the image of this part of the city. Historical-Artistic Complex of Garachico and, furthermore, alleviate the lack of infrastructures for musical and artistic training ”.
The projected infrastructure is located on a plot of 909 square meters and will occupy an area of 588, between Cirilo Rolo de Armas, Martín de Andújar, El Sol and Condes de El Palmar streets. The center, which will be developed in the shape of the letter u around a central courtyard, will house piano, percussion, brass, woodwind, string, musical training classrooms and a multipurpose room that can be made compatible with the training of choir, theater and dance.
There is space to build, in the future, a small auditorium adjacent to the main building
In the same way, the building will have administration and reception, management and teachers’ room, toilets, changing rooms, storage area and a room for electrical installations, air conditioning and fire protection, among other issues.
The infrastructure will be divided into two floors in the southern zone, and the rest into a single floor, the structure of which will be prepared for a possible expansion on the second level. What’s more A music room or small auditorium adjacent to the main building, in the northwestern part of the plot, will be proposed for a possible future intervention.
Regarding the courtyards and the exterior, the intervention proposes two non-built spaces: an interior patio for outdoor activities, and an exterior space that is expected to be treated with continuous paving. The rest of the surface of the outer plaza will be paved in basalt natural stone, like the steely.
