The same day that the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, announced that he was desisting from celebrating the reception of the Three Wise Men at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, after the response obtained from Public Health, in La Laguna, his namesake in La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, inaugurated the royal camp, in which, with a maximum capacity of 750 people per day, the little ones will be able to enjoy different activities.
José Manuel Bermúdez explained that “Public Health, in the resolution sent to this City Council, makes us desist from the organization of the reception of the Mayan Kings at the Heliodoro Rodríguez Stadium, since it is only granted for a certain number of attendees and in levels 1 and 2 of health alert ”. In addition, he added that “this means that in the current situation of sanitary restrictions, in Tenerife it becomes a disallowance to be able to organize said event in the capital city”.
In the resolution sent, it is quoted, literally, that in alert level 3 “mass events with more than 1,000 attendees may not be held, both in open and closed spaces, and regardless of whether they have been authorized”. In this sense, Bermúdez stressed that, “although we have done everything possible to maintain this traditional celebration, committed to the magic and illusion of the little ones, it will not be possible, but we guarantee that the Three Wise Men will visit Santa Cruz.”
In this sense, the mayor of Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, announced that “the Kings will be received at the stadium in an event that, behind closed doors, will be broadcast by different audiovisual media.” He also confirmed that, “once this reception is over, there will be five royal delegates who will take a tour, which will be communicated in advance, through the main streets and avenues of all districts.”
For its part, in La Laguna, the magical camp of the Magi from the East opened its doors yesterday in La Constitución park, with the help of more than a hundred people (including royal pages, elves and security personnel, among others) and the participation of the mayor of Aguere, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the councilor for Fiestas, Badel Albelo. This logistics center to prepare gifts in this enclosure, turned into a safe space so that it can be visited by girls and boys, will be in operation until January 4. Gutiérrez stressed that, for the Government team, “it is essential to ensure the well-being of citizens, so the Christmas programming has been readjusted to the current situation and we have chosen to focus it on our children, with the desire that they live these dates with the same enthusiasm as before the pandemic ”. For this reason, he indicated that it has been decided “to continue with the celebration of this royal camp, but with the application of a strict security protocol, because for us the fundamental thing is health.”
