The City Council of Granadilla de Abona has just launched the agreement Tenerife lives diversity, signed with the Tenerife Council and the University of La Laguna (ULL). With this agreement, Granadilla became the first municipality on the island to join this set of actions to promote the integration of migrants and avoid xenophobic and racist behavior. The Department of Citizen Participation signed this collaboration framework in October to develop the strategy for intercultural coexistence. The first activity has already been held: Granadilla hosted last weekend the 15th edition of the Insular Table for Intercultural Coexistence in the San Isidro Espacio Cívico. The meeting served to take stock and think about the actions of the next year.
This edition was dedicated to the reception of migrants and used the technique of artivism, that uses art as a formula for social demand. A collective mural focused on reception, a photographic exhibition that makes visible that all of us are or have been migrants, a short film festival with the participation of migrants, a color party to celebrate diversity or a flashmob focused on the theme of the welcome are some of the proposals that came out of the groups. This agreement is designed especially for municipalities that, like Granadilla de Abona, have great cultural diversity. Dozens of different nationalities coexist in the towns and neighborhoods of Granada.
The mayor, José Domingo Regalado, highlighted that Granadilla has opted for multiculturalism by welcoming people from multiple and diverse origins. «» Sa wealth for our municipality. It is a population that has brought us the best of each place and contributes to that idea with which we work that our greatest potential is our population, “he said.
