
The Plaza del Príncipe yesterday hosted the awards ceremony of the Nativity Scene Contest, for which the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Autonomous Organization of Festivities and Recreational Activities (OAFAR), recognizes the best artistic recreations presented in its fiftieth first edition.
The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, accompanied by the seventh deputy mayor and party councilor, Alfonso Cabello, presented the awards for the traditional contest.
The mayor thanked all the participants “for their commitment to a contest, which continues to grow, year after year, in quality and creativity; in addition to supplying a connection thread, not only between the residents of the Santa Cruz districts, but also between past and future generations ”. For his part, the Party Councilor, Alfonso Cabello, stressed “the importance of maintaining the illusion and magic of Christmas in these difficult times marked by the health situation.”
In the contest held on the 15th, a total of 19 nativity scenes distributed in the five districts participated, under four modalities: Group A ‘Associations of Neighbors, Cultural Associations and Open Air Nativity scenes’; Group B ‘Parishes, NGOs and non-profit organizations, companies and shop windows’; Group C ‘Private homes’; and Group D ‘Infant and Primary Schools’.
The San Martín de Porres Neighborhood Association won the first prize in Group A, with the Guacimara La Gallega Neighborhood Association coming in second. The third place was obtained by the El Pescador Neighborhood Association of San Andrés. The Group B awards were made up of the Horizonte Occupational Center and the Nuestra Señora de África Market, respectively.
Dailos Rodríguez López won the first prize in Group C, which was followed by recreations by neighbors Alejandro Vara García and Bentorey García Baute.
In Group D, the Colegio Salesianas Hogar Escuela María Auxiliadora obtained the first prize, which was followed by the Colegio Hispano Inglés and the CEIP Ofra Vistabella; CEIP Fray Albino also obtained an honorable mention. The jury was made up of nativity scenes Andrés Fulgencio Estévez García, Ana Obdulia Fuentes Mederos and Carmelo José Ramos González.
The event also recalled the extensive work of nativity scene Fernando Bethencourt González, by presenting his family members with a commemorative plaque that recognizes his participation from the first edition of the contest. Bethencourt, who obtained 10 first prizes, 5 seconds and 5 third prizes throughout his career, received at his home the public who wanted to visit his nativity scene that included a soundtrack with the story of the sacred story and the lighting with the day effect / night, which would inspire different generations of artisans.
In this edition of the Santa Cruz Nativity Scene Municipal Contest, El Bulán Restaurant and Jugueterías Nikki collaborate, which will deliver a gift voucher to the four winning schools to exchange it for educational games and toys for the school.
