The event Avocados for your solidarity, organized this Sunday, December 19, 2021 in La Orotava, has allowed the exchange of 350 kilos of avocados from The Palm for 500 kilos of non-perishable food that Cáritas will distribute among some of the 300 families it serves in the town’s municipality. The manager of Orotava Aguacates, Vicente Santos Luis, considers that the initiative was “a real success”Since in just three hours they distributed the 350 one-kilo bags of avocados in exchange for donations in the form of food.
The event took place outside of the church of San Agustín, next to the Plaza del Quiosco, in the historic center of La Orotava. Two tents were set up in which a team of volunteers from the company and from Caritas they were in charge of making an exchange inspired by the old tradition of bartering.
Vicente Santos appreciates the solidarity of all attendees and the musical group that, selflessly, came to liven up the call. And he highlights that “many people came to donate food and contributed more than the kilo we asked for or even gave up the bag of avocados because they simply wanted to help the families who need it most.”
The mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares (CC), was one of the 400 people who came to the event to collaborate with a solidarity contribution. The coordinator of Cáritas Diocesana in the La Orotava Valley, Milagros González, had announced that “the food that is gathered will allow us to have a significant amount to distribute directly and complement the service that we offer with the purchase cards in supermarkets. Only in La Orotava we serve more than 1,200 people “.
Vicente Santos He wanted to publicly show his gratitude to “all the people who have wanted to contribute to the campaign Avocados for your solidarity and the solidarity raffle with those affected by the eruption of The Palm, as well as the companies that have seen fit to contribute their bit; to the La Orotava City Council for providing us with all the means so that the event could be held; to the group of singing friends Lola, Gerardo, Pablo, Fran, Javier Linares and Marcos, as well as to Alvaro and the collaborators of Cáritas “.
