SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The CC senator for the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will urge the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, in plenary next Tuesday, to clarify whether the REF “will be left out of the new financing system.”
In a statement, the nationalist described as “very serious” that at this point there are still doubts about the intentions of the Pedro Sánchez Government “and that they still do not recognize that the Canarian jurisdiction is the tool that allows us to start from a level of equality with other autonomous communities and not an extra that can be added to the financing “.
At this point he warned that CC “will not allow” steps back or the REF to enter the new negotiation framework of the financing system “because that would take us back to 2008 when the islands lost 700 million euros a year and came to the tail of financing “.
For his part, Clavijo said that the draft prepared by the Ministry shows how far the Madrid Islands are and the little knowledge of the island reality.
In this regard, he added that “they continue to treat the REF as a privilege, an addition to be added and subtracted when it suits them, but they have to be very clear that the Canarian jurisdiction is neither negotiated nor breached.”
On the other hand, he crossed out the position of the Canarian Government as “alarming” and pointed out that “a new attack by the State against the law cannot be dealt with with hot cloths.”
Thus, he warned that the Canary Islands cannot face the negotiation of a new regional financing system from weakness, nor show “fissures” in the defense of fair financing that recognizes the singular fact of the Canary Islands and that leaves out the REF of the autonomous financing .
