The rise of Covid cases in Tenerife forces municipalities to cancel part of the Christmas events

The increase in coronavirus cases registered during the last two weeks and the decision of the Canary Islands Government to raise the level of health alert in Tenerife has led most of the Tenerife municipalities to make the decision to suspend some of the acts they had scheduled for this Christmas.

These are the towns that, for the moment, have made the decision to cancel part of their Christmas activities:

The rosary

The El Rosario City Council, given the increase in infections by Covid-19, especially in Tenerife, and the rise to Alert Level 3, announces the suspension of the events scheduled for this weekend within the Christmas festive campaign. It is about the Christmas concert of the Parranda Chasnera, scheduled for Saturday, and the children’s festival “Dinoshow” on Sunday.

In addition, due to the new capacity restrictions this Saturday, December 18, the traditional institutional Eucharist will not be celebrated for the Day of Our Lady of La Esperanza, honorary Mayor of the Villa de La Esperanza and Patron of the Local Police. Instead, the Church of La Esperanza will host the usual mass, at 12:00 hours, open to the public until the allowed number of parishioners is completed.

Tegueste

The municipality postpones the Show Christmas Clowns, scheduled for this Sunday at the Prince Felipe Theater.

Cross port

The Puerto de la Cruz City Council reports that “in view of the advance of the pandemic and the new level of alert, the events planned in the Christmas party program have been postponed from Saturday until further notice.” The capacity of the Handicraft Fair, which continues until Sunday, and the Fair of attractions of the pier will also be reduced.

La Orotava

The town has chosen to maintain the events planned in the Teobaldo Power Auditorium because they had been planned with capacity to be held even at alert level 4 by Covid-19.

The Realejos

Los Realejos is one of the municipalities that has made the decision to temporarily suspend the programming of Christmas events due to the rise of Tenerife to level 3 of epidemiological alert.

“Unfortunately from the Los Realejos City Council we communicate that, in view of our commitment to prevention and responsibility and in accordance with health recommendations, we proceed to the temporary suspension and / or postponement of all events planned in the municipality included in the Christmas program until new notice and until the health situation allows it “, picks up a statement from the consistory.

The City Council also points out that in the next few hours the details of the suspension of use and activity in municipally owned facilities, referring to sports, cultural and social use, will also be defined.

La Guancha

The mayor of La Guancha, Antonio Hernández (PP), explained that “all public shows are suspended or postponed. This weekend neither the Perenquen Guanchero nor the concert of the band nor the scheduled performance of the Abruncos group will be held.”

Buenavista del Norte

In the case of Buenavista, it has been chosen to attend to the indications on a daily basis “adapting everything to the regulations”. At the moment, they have not suspended any of the open-air events with limited capacity, “except those that the organizers themselves have decided to postpone.”

The Silos

The Los Silos City Council has been forceful and has decided to suspend or postpone, where appropriate, the cultural, sports and leisure events scheduled until January 4, with the exception of the Three Kings Parade “since, as that of 2021 complies with all the sanitary measures established for these events “.

Tacoronte

Tacoronte suspends the days of coexistence in Barranco Las lajas, in addition to the cultural activity from this Saturday. The half marathon is held on Sunday, because it is federated, and the City of La Laguna Rally that has part of its route this Saturday in Tacoronte.

Santiago del Teide

The southern City Council was the first, late Thursday night, to issue a statement in which, in the face of the rebound in cases due to Covid19 in Tenerife in recent days. It also insists, like the rest, on the “commitment to prevention and responsibility” that requires “suspending all acts planned in the municipality” with the usual tag “until further notice and until the health situation allows it.”

The victory

Another town that has decided to temporarily suspend the events of its Christmas program is La Victoria de Acentejo.

Arafo

Juan Ramón Martín, mayor of the Villa de Arafo, values: “After the Government of the Canary Islands decided to raise it to level three, the decision was made to suspend a series of activities aimed at the older population of the town, understanding that they are a sector of the population at risk. They will take place tomorrow, Saturday and the next day 29. For the moment, those that take place in cultural spaces such as the Juan Carlos I Auditorium are maintained, where compliance with the capacity is guaranteed in addition to requiring the Covid certificate for entry to the venue. This measure could be modified according to the evolution of the data.

Fasnia

The mayor, Damián Pérez, points out that “we suspended a meal today for the City Council staff and La Arrancadilla (an event similar to the White Night) tomorrow, Saturday.” He stresses that they are “pending the evolution of the pandemic and the recommendations of the Government of the Canary Islands.”

Arico

Given the advance of the pandemic, the declaration of level 3 health alert in Tenerife “and in order to facilitate the containment of the virus in our municipality”, Arico postpones the following events scheduled for this weekend: Christmas concert (today Friday 17); Christmas carol meeting and visit to CIT del Sur (Saturday 18), as well as the Christmas Festival (Sunday 19). It will be reported on changes in municipal programming based on epidemiological evolution and the decisions of the Government of the Canary Islands. And they add: “We want to thank all the neighbors for their understanding, and ask them to strictly respect the sanitary recommendations. Candelaria

The Candelaria City Council has decided, in accordance with the recommendations of the Government of the Canary Islands, to postpone the concerts of Besay Pérez and Big Band Kids & Swing, scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, advocating for prevention in the face of the increase in the incidence of Covid-19. Likewise, the 26th Christmas Carols Meeting of the Chajoigo Folkloric Group, the award ceremony of the III Villa de Candelaria Children’s Cycling League and the Christmas party of the Rainbow Center have been canceled. The Candelaria Musical and Dramatized Route at Christmas and the parade with the Batucada Almagec are also suspended. The rest of the planned events will be adapted to the measures established for level 3 health alert. The Candelaria City Council makes a “call to the public to continue to comply with the regulations and be responsible for preventing the spread of the virus.”

Güímar

Due to the rebound in cases of Covid-19 on the Island and in the municipality in recent days, “unfortunately we communicate that, given our commitment to prevention and responsibility, we are obliged to suspend all planned acts in the municipality until new notice and when the health situation allows it ”. The solidarity collection of toys is moved to the courtyard of the City Council with reduced capacity and without actions.

San Miguel de Abona

The mayor of the southern town Arturo González warns that they will continue to develop “all those Christmas events that comply with the conditions established by the competent bodies”, although he also points out that “always with the uncertainty of the evolution of the pandemic and being aware that Based on this, activities or events can be suspended from one day to the next ”.

Adeje

The councilors responsible for the government group have met to assess the acts planned in the coming days and the decision has been made to suspend one of the yoga concentration, The rest comply with the restrictions and measures required by the health authorities. In any case, next week a meeting will be held to reassess the rest of the Christmas agenda in case there are any changes, the need to take other measures or suspend more activities.

Arona

The Arona City Council has reported that there are no Christmas events in the coming days that, by their nature, have to be suspended for health reasons. On the other hand, the concert that the Municipal Music Band that was going to celebrate this Saturday at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium has been postponed, for now, without a new specific date. From the Consistory they emphasize to the citizenship in respecting the security measures of alert level 3.

Passion fruit

The Granadilla de Abona City Council suspends a large part of the events scheduled for this Christmas and the concerts scheduled for this month of December are postponed. The Christmas of the musical band Sociedad Cultural José Reyes Martín, today Saturday, and the Spanish Judo Cup at the regional and local level, in the sports hall, on Sunday.
