The Popular Party spokeswoman in the Council, Zaida González, values that the budgets proposed by the Socialist Party for 2022 “will aggravate and chronify the problems of Tenerife.” González accuses the island government of having turned the institution into “a useless administration.” He considers that the accounts for 2022 “have a clear ideological bias.” Hence the presentation of an amendment to the whole, with the intention of “correcting the terrible consequences of such a budget for our Island.” The popular councilor insists that “the document they intend to approve is characterized by investment cuts in strategic areas for the social and economic development of Tenerife.”
According to the analysis of the PP, in the budget project approved by the Governing Council, the cuts reached 40.4% in sightseeing; 66.5% in Employment and Socioeconomic Development; 73.4% in Sustainable Development; or 43.8% in the primary sector.
The popular spokesperson adds: «We have also been surprised by the 75.7% cut in the item directed to equality policies and the prevention of gender violence, in addition to 62.6% less for Territory Planning, -68.4% for Historical Heritage, or a decrease that affects the territorial balance on the Island, the reduction in investment items in Municipal Cooperation that almost reaches 40% ».
For the Popular Party, these budgets “will not be able to provide a solution to the structural problems that Tenerife has”, more virulent “as a consequence of the deep economic and social crisis added to the health of the coronavirus.”
Zaida González has been concerned about the fact that “the budget that they intend to approve for 2022 reveals, once again, the submission that they have with the Government of the Canary Islands, by allowing us to cut back on the scope of funding for transferred and delegated powers ». The popular spokeswoman sums up: “From the autonomous community they take money from all of us from Tenerife, and you remain silent, complicit and docile.” Zaida González concludes: «I remind you that the PSOE governs in Tenerife to defend the interests of the people of Tenerife and not to be the vassals of that same party in other institutions.
