The Plenary of La Laguna yesterday approved an institutional motion, based on a proposal presented by Citizens, by which it was agreed “to advance in the development of the Municipal Mental Health Strategy, with specific actions in the matter of awareness and prevention against suicide , with municipal staff and the general population ”.

In addition, the Sectorial Mental Health Council will be called “urgently”, “in order to develop this municipal strategy for the prevention of suicide, as a complementary document” to said Municipal Strategy for Mental Health. Finally, it was agreed “to urgently establish the need for intervention in the field of suicide, as a public health emergency in the municipality.”

The Plenary also approved as institutional the motion presented by the local government team (PSOE, Unidas se can and Avante) in which the State, the Autonomous Community and the Cabildo de Tenerife, as well as the banking entities, are asked to greater degree of commitment to tackle the “housing emergency” suffered by the Canary Islands, through the application of 13 measures that lead to an increase in housing for social use.
Likewise, within the framework of another motion presented by the nationalists for the Cabildo to include in the 2022 budgets phases II and III of the project to recondition the La Barranquera coastline and improve sanitation, the councilor for Beaches and Pools, Cristina Ledesma, announced that in the last meeting with the Cabildo “it was reported that an administrative procedure is currently pending to be able to put phase II to tender in 2022 and to update the project budget”, for which there is an item, he pointed.

This phase II will involve, as explained by the mayor, the creation of “solarium, toilets, changing rooms, playgrounds and sports and other equipment, in addition to the civil works of the pumping installation and the treatment plant, and the canalization of sanitation will be carried out. to the pumping station from the population center “
As for phase III, “it depends on a report from Costas to be able to continue processing the project,” said Ledesma.

A plenary session that began with the councilor of CC-PNC Candelaria Díaz requesting a point of order to read a letter that, at the end of November, was sent by the Official College of Secretaries, Auditors and Treasurers of Local Administration of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the one that conveys his “most absolute rejection of the treatment received” by a companion in the framework of a meeting with a government councilor and an official. The letter states that “the comrade has transferred to us her deep discomfort with the conduct of the aforementioned official, addressing it with humiliating treatment,” said CC, who asked to convene an investigation commission and clarify responsibilities.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, responded that “the same day that document arrived, this mayor opened a file of confidential information. It was communicated to both the civil servants and the leadership of the Mayor’s office that, given the assessments that were expressed in that document, they had to act immediately, and if responsibilities have to be purged, they will be purged ”. In addition, he criticized CC that, “as the majority group of the opposition, if it has this document,” it should have “brought it to the attention of the Mayor’s Office and we would have discussed it in a private meeting, which is how such delicate issues are dealt with, and they would know the measures that have been taken ”.

The Plenary also addressed the file related to the taking of knowledge of the transfer to the position of non-attached councilor of Alfredo Gómez.
