The tourist municipalities of the Canary Islands contribute 50,000 euros of aid to La Palma

The president of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) and of the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sun and Beach (AMT), José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga; The vice president of the AMTC, Onalia Bueno García, and the president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, signed on Monday a protocol to help those affected by the volcano as a commitment by the municipalities that are members of both associations to collaborate in the recovery of the Isla Bonita and that includes a financial contribution of 50,000 euros.

This act was carried out after the AMTC Assembly, which took place at the Hotel H10 Taburiente Playa de Los Cancajos and whose celebration constitutes in itself a sign of support for tourism on this island.

José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga told the media that “the island of La Palma has been suffering for weeks the terrible consequences of the volcanic eruption that has overwhelmed half the world. Affecting a specific and defined area of the island’s geography, it has caused damage and has consequences throughout the Isla Bonita, with thousands of displaced people and countless people affected directly and indirectly ”.

“Tourism, the engine of the Spanish, Canarian and palm economy is no stranger to this catastrophe, nor can it remain indifferent to what is happening on the Isla Bonita. Precisely this island, its people, its traditions, its nature and everything that makes it up as a society are part of the attractions that our country offers the world as one of the most beautiful and important tourist destinations ”, added the president of the AMTC.

For his part, Hernández Zapata indicated that “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your presence on La Palma. This is something positive, as it is proof that the island can be safely visited ”. “We are working now to plan for the future, which is a major challenge for us. We want the island of La Palma to be an island of opportunities ”, he said.
