The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved this Tuesday, December 14, the signing of an agreement with the Santa Úrsula City Council for the construction of a new roundabout in the area of La Cuesta de la Villa that will improve the intersection of the TF- 217 with the access of the TF-5 in this municipality. The action foresees a circular roundabout of about 30 meters in outside diameter with three branches. The first vice president and counselor responsible for the Cabildo’s Roads area, Enrique Arriaga (Cs), explains that the budget for this intersection reaches 597,219 euros, of which the Tenerife Council will contribute 75% (451,000 euros) and the rest will run by the Santa Úrsula City Council (146,000 euros).
From the Roads area it is reported that this intersection currently constitutes “a complicated traffic point” due to the delays that usually occur due to vehicle turns. According to Arriaga, “this is an area where serious traffic jams occur, so we consider that this action, demanded for some time, will mean a significant improvement” both in fluidity and safety.
The island vice president explains that this infrastructure will make the TF-217 more fluid by facilitating the intersection of the crossing, will increase the capacity at the intersection itself and will reduce the risk of accidents. On this road an average of 3,530 vehicles circulate daily, according to data from the Highways area of the Cabildo of Tenerife.
The insular director of Roads, Tomás García Félix, adds that from the area it is estimated that the works can begin “in the second half of next year 2022”. In his opinion, “the construction of the roundabout will help improve road safety and traffic for both vehicles and pedestrians.” For the mayor of Santa Úrsula, Juan Acosta (AISU), «the new roundabout in the La Cuesta de la Villa area is essential because it is a key access for the town from the North highway (TF-5) and a place with usual problems.
