The El Mojón Partial Plan is still pending receipt by the City Council to complete its urban development. | Sergio Mendez

The reception by the City Council of Arona of the Partial Plan El Mojón enters a solution path, with the will of the Consistory and the new Compensation Board that the technicians of both parties are the ones who “fix the differences” that in August 2020 made this acceptance impossible, due to unfavorable reports from municipal technicians, specifically about the pumping station, a communication gateway and the two municipal parks that must be executed.

This will to understand, as the mayor, José Julián Mena, pointed out yesterday, in an extraordinary plenary session on urban planning requested by the opposition, is given by the decision of the current Compensation Board to suspend the contentious-administrative appeal that the previous president of the Board , José Francisco Reverón, presented after the non-reception of the City Council, which by then had already granted urban planning licenses for two hotel facilities, licenses, on the other hand, which have all the favorable reports, as recalled in the plenary session held yesterday at noon in the Infanta Leonor de Los Cristianos auditorium.

Apart from the El Mojón Partial Plan, the file of the Arts Shopping Center was also discussed, one of the issues that determined the dismissal of Luis García, in July 2020, as mayor of Urbanism and the breakdown of the Socialist group. Mena gave details of the process, now judicialized, as requested by the opposition, although this was not satisfied with his explanations, nor Luis García, now a non-attached councilor, advanced any news about a building paralyzed for failing to comply, among other reasons, with the Law of Coasts.

Regarding the PGO review file, Mena briefly indicated that “the writing is in phase 2 of the draft of the strategic plan.”

Finally, the government group promised to convene the Urban Planning information commissions, “how could it be otherwise”, said its spokesman Leopoldo Díaz Oda, something that has not occurred since the crisis after the dismissal of Luis García. the opposition spokesmen recalled. In the latter, the six PSOE councilors who do not support Mena and García himself continue to “militate”.

Águeda Fumero (PP) insisted on the null transparency of the mayor and the “misrule” suffered by Arona.

More than 1,500 aroneros are trained in science and technology through the ULL

Promote early vocations in science and technology and the training of students, unemployed and entrepreneurs from Arona in both, as well as supporting local entrepreneurship, digital transformation and economic diversification of small and medium-sized enterprises in the municipality. These are some of the objectives sought by the ARN Innova program, whose agreement for the 2022-2023 period has been reviewed by the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena; by the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Raquel García, and by the director of the University Employment Agency, Leopoldo Benjumea.

ARN Innova is an initiative of the Arona City Council, in coordination with the University of La Laguna and its General Foundation, which has served more than 1,500 people during 2021, more than a thousand of whom belong to the educational centers of the municipality, one student body who has been offered training in science and technology. To the oldest, over 16 years of age, even in disciplines such as digital design, robotics or programming, subjects that have a significant cost in the market.

The program is divided into two blocks: the science and technology laboratory, which encourages interest in science and technology at an early age, and the promotion and support of entrepreneurs.
