Concern grows in the municipal government before the proximity of the end of the term given by the Cabildo for interested companies to submit offers to the contest Drafting the project, the execution of the works and the operation of a waste recovery facility, including recycling and other types of recovery (except energy recovery through oxidation incineration). A tender that the governing tripartite in Arico wants to paralyze, a proposal that did not find the support of the PSOE, which abstained in the plenary vote.
First, Arico, CC and PP approved «to urge the Council»To suspend the tender« because it is committed to the energy recovery of waste that can be materially recovered (recycled or composted) ». The municipal proposal also states that the island’s waste management policies “do not consider energy recovery as an option for waste treatment with potential for material recovery.”
The PSOE of Arico stresses that «it is absolutely false that waste is going to be incinerated in Arico » and ensures that “the specifications of the Tenerife Waste Plan exclude incineration.” At the same time, the Socialists reproach the municipal government for this attitude because on September 15 it granted a license to the company Plastic Energy Tenerife SL, which will be installed in the landfill to treat plastic waste using pyrolysis.
Arico demands from the Cabildo the renewal of the agreement by which the municipality was compensated, from 2004 to 2018, with investments valued at around one million euros per year for the harmful effects of the presence of the landfill on local economic activity. Lawsuit that found the rejection of the island government, which claims the municipal reports that support the existence of such damages.
Meanwhile, as stated by the authorities, the PP in the Cabildo raises a amendment to the General Budget of the Corporation in the amount of one million euros so that the request of Arico is met, a municipality that, like the rest of the island, will see an increase in the rate they pay for depositing garbage in the Environmental Complex in 2022, a measure with which the Cabildo will collect 3.6 million euros, according to PP.
