Yesterday the artist Julio Nieto began to mount, in the Plaza de España, in Santa Cruz, his sculpture I take it well. A piece of stainless steel, five meters high and 450 kilos in weight, which was already in this same environment seven years ago, but has now returned to stay permanently.
In 2014, this artist of Basque origin decided to exhibit this sculpture in the capital for two weeks. A piece with the appearance of a man in the shape of a tree, which symbolizes “the optimism of the human being, who, despite all his thoughts, takes it well”, and people “fell in love.”
So much so that money began to be raised, through a Facebook platform, to be able to acquire it and leave it in the city. However, the objective was not reached, and I take it well, he traveled to many art galleries in Madrid, Barcelona, Germany and New York.
Over time, and after learning about the story, the son of the well-known motor racing driver Juan Hernández, who was closely linked to Tenerife, got in touch with Julio to acquire it and make a gift to the city.
A proposal that the City Council of Santa Cruz received with open arms, and that caused “enormous joy” to Julio, who, as a thank you, will put the name of “everyone participated at the time so that he would stay.” The sculpture will be inaugurated next Wednesday, the 15th.
