The Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Carmen Luz Baso and the rector of the University of La Laguna, Rosa María Aguiar, presented this Friday at a press conference a new edition of ‘Capacita’, a project whose The objective is to promote the employability of people with degrees or those in the process of obtaining a higher degree and that in the previous edition trained a total of 240.
Baso described the new edition as “successful because of the great social return and because they address employability in a holistic way” and reminded people registered in Tenerife, who have completed a higher education, university or vocational training, or are studying and are registered in the Canarian Employment Service, which ‘Capacita’ already offers new training and career guidance options.
Baso explained that 240 people with a university degree or higher vocational training had their first experience doing internships in companies, compared to the initial goal of 210.
In addition, 36 of the beneficiaries of the orientation program report having obtained a job after completing the program.
Regarding the profile of the participants in the orientation and internships in companies, 51.67% were women.
The counselor pointed out that the “500,000 euros of initial budget became 1,268,837 euros of real impact according to the impact study (SROI), which means that each euro invested contributed 2.54 to society”.
“This data,” continued the counselor, “reaffirms the need to continue supporting projects such as ‘Capacita’, whose return benefits not only those who take advantage of the program, but also the socioeconomic environment of the island.”
Along these lines, he said that “the process of incorporation into the world of work is considered one of the key moments in people’s lives and that is why this program is supported and emphasizes that stage so that the transition is smoothed and facilitated.”
For her part, the rector of the ULL, Rosa María Aguiar, explained that although “qualification is a key factor to avoid unemployment, nowadays a series of skills, competencies and personal characteristics must be added that modulate the ability of a person to get and keep the right job. “
From the University of La Laguna, through its Foundation, “we have imposed ourselves as a duty, to guarantee the insertion of university talent and professional training in the business fabric of the island and for that we also make an effort to listen to companies to know and meet their needs, “he said.
The training plan achieved, in its previous edition, the enrollment of 1,630 people, mostly women (62.5%), mainly people with university studies (90.6%) and people under 30 years of age (60%).
Of all of them, 1,222 obtained a grade equal to or greater than five, so the pass rate is 75.2% for a free training offer, with no obligation to pass for the user.
In fact, in the assessment surveys the overall satisfaction with the training actions is given an average satisfaction of 9 out of 10 for the total of the actions, while with respect to the usefulness of the contents treated, an average assessment of 9 is obtained. 1 out of 10.
At the time of data collection, three people who were already working claimed to have improved their salary; 20 people affirmed that the training allowed them to improve their working conditions and 59 obtained a job after training with ‘Capacita’, which added to the 36 who started working after the orientation process make a total of 95 people.
“The training proposal of ‘Capacita’ is aimed at complementing higher education skills that allow them to give value to their professional qualification by making people more competitive and, in turn, providing a source of innovation and improvement for companies,” he explained the rector.
The free training offer brings this edition an important novelty: the training plans.
This improvement of the offer allows to complete a complete itinerary to obtain a diploma that certifies that the person is a specialist in Presto, BIM modeling, video games, QGIS or business management with A3, among others.
All this training offer is not only professional and highly employable, but if it does not exist in Capacita, it could only be carried out privately and at a high cost for the student body.
