“It is the first time that so much money has been distributed and also the first time that Santa Cruz does not receive a single euro,” complained the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, who expressed his discomfort after learning that the Subsidy Plan of the Cabildo de Tenerife, endowed with 16 million euros, has not taken into account a single of the projects presented by the capital city. “We are talking about 16 million euros in nominative subsidies to municipalities, and there is not a euro for Santa Cruz, and it will not be for projects because we have presented proposals to stop a car, including that an amount of money be assigned to the Municipal Reception Center, which has an insular function, and which, however, the Cabildo is not characterized by its support ”, denounced Bermúdez.
The mayor pointed out that “I wanted to put on record my rejection of the Cabildo’s budgets in the Insular Council of Territorial Administration (CIAT), because it is the first time that so much money has been distributed by finger, a distribution in which of those 16 million, 14 go to socialist municipalities ”.
Bermúdez concluded by highlighting that “we could understand that 3 million were given in a nominative way because something was left out in the budgets, but that 16 million were distributed, a very important amount, and that Santa Cruz is absolutely out of these subsidies, no it is of receipt and it is not understandable either ”.
On the other hand, the Councilor for the Treasury, Juan José Martínez, highlighted the amendments presented to these budgets, “which seek to rebalance the island accounts so that Santa Cruz projects such as the 1.5 million for the Plan Doing Neighborhoods for hiring people in a situation of social exclusion or long-term unemployed in construction “and argued others” such as the 550,000 euros that would be used to remodel La Rosa Street, a proposed intervention to revitalize the traditional commercial sector in the El Toscal / Centro area, consisting of the semi-pedestrianization of the road while giving a high-quality treatment to urban furniture, facilities and landscaping ”.
In the area of public infrastructures, he detailed the “250,000 euros necessary for the interior remodeling of the Guimerá Theater, which would allow undertaking the reform of the stalls and other premises of the enclosure, the main historical reference of the performing arts in Tenerife”, says the Councilor for Finance, who added “the need for another 500,000 euros to undertake the roofing of sports centers in some CEIPs, planned in 2022 in five of them to enable the practice of sports by schoolchildren and potentially their environment throughout the year and that affects more than 2,500 direct beneficiaries ”.
Finally, other amounts are added that have to do with the 450,000 euros for the 2nd phase of the rehabilitation of the Palacio de Carta; the 450,000 euros for the Buenaventura Bonnet Social Health Center, which would allow the rehabilitation of this old school to locate different centers for social and health care, facilities that are always very necessary to serve the elderly in this municipality.
In the framework of the CIAT meeting, the situation of the Island against COVID was also addressed. Mayor. “The municipalities cannot wait any longer for the Government, we need certainty. This weekend there will be many company dinners, some organized by the public administrations themselves, and others by the workers of many companies themselves, and we need them to give a series of recommendations such as the mandatory use of the certificate or the recommendation that you can ask for an antigen test prior to dinners ”, he pointed out.
The capital offers the Cabo Llanos building to the Cabildo for 20.5 million
Among the amendments to the Cabildo’s budget is the offer from Santa Cruz to acquire the Auditorium Building, which stands in Cabo Llanos, for 20,500,000 euros, “which would allow it to have a first-rate property for entities of strategic interest or island administration ”
